Boys, Bears & a serious pair of Hiking Boots

A summer romance written by an author of a series of books, Abby McDonald. This book looks so exciting from the cover. It actually sort of reminds me of Camp Rock (Yes, yes I know I grew up watching Disney channel, don't judge.)

Within the first couple of pages of this book I was glued. I didn't want to put it down (but I had to because our family just got a chocolate lab puppy, and man can that girl play!)

What's it about:
This book is about teenage girl, Jenna who comes to StillWater, Alaska where her godmother lives, looking to get away from everything back home except her best friend Olivia. Things already seem bad when she egst there. Her godmothers house is under construction which means she has to share a room with her godmother's emo stepchild. The boys of StillWater are playing mean tricks on her and teasing oh yeah and did I mention having to put up with that witch of a stepchild! Follow Jenna on her journey of self discovery, friendship, and compromise.

You should know:
There is language in this book. Mostly it is the usage of the name God which I tend to cringe at because I am Christian and don't understand why we can't just use other words if we HAVE to use any profanity at all. Just sayin' There is one usage of the F -bomb and a couple more words used throughout the entirety of the book but profanity isn't overused. I imagine you hear more profanity in high school hallways (I'm also home schooled, well I WAS home schooled hence "I imagine".)

There is gay character in this book but not much is talked about of his sexual orientation and he doesn't dwell in it. In fact he keeps it hidden from almost every character he meets and interacts with.

I don't like sexual stuff in books so if there is even the tiniest sexual innuendo you can't bet the book review will go down for just that. In this case sex and the phrase "Do it" (Ick) are in the book a lot. (Jenna's godmother thinks Jenna and one of the boy leads have had sex, and other times it is indicated.)

Before you go ahead and type some comment about how I should lighten up I know this is a teen book,  but don't you think thirteen year olds should be able to pick up a book and not read about sex? If you think differently then maybe we should have talk.

Overall:
Overall this book is a great read. The character development is very great and Jenna seems like a person I would love to spend an afternoon with talking about life. I love how Jenna handles situations and how she perseveres. This book reminds me of my vacations in Mammoth, California.
